Description
Unlike thermoset plastics, cast iron, or even cast aluminum, the aluminum billet housing body is machined to precise tolerances and provides the maximum heat transfer characteristics required in the higher heat environment of the picker operation. The stainless steel bearings with proven water-resistant lube are designed with a triple seal combination for the housing and bearing plate, and a patented bearing isolator. This assures that minimal moisture, liquid or vapor, and no fine feathers, fat or fecal matter gets past the first seal and face plate or approaches the bearing housing. The second seal and the bearing isolator at the shaft entrance to the housing assures NO water or coarse contaminates get into the bearing housing. Water Vapor that enters will be removed as condensate when cooled by the drain holes that must be in the DOWNWARD position to properly drain the condensate. Finally, the rear or sheave side seal and bearing isolator assure maximum protection on the drive side of the housing. The face plate is designed to provide a “pilot-boss” and, in some models, a seal “pocket” to assist in mounting the head to the picker cabinet and provide added protection for a nested seal. The flat belt pulleys have been modified to have four to six equally spaced ¾” Diameter holes in the web of the pulley, which maximizes air flow around the housing and offers a “fan effect” to the housing area. The same “fan-effect” design is also included in the “V” belt and timing belt configurations.
The Timing or Cog Belt Option allows several advantages including positive non-slip drive performance without excessive tightening of the belt for longer belt and motor life. It also includes a tensioner/idler which relieves the belt pressure as required for any adjustment. In the event of a bird or shackle being hung in the picker, the cog belt option provides dependable release of finger plate rotation by allowing the tensioner-idler to release the tension of the belt.
